250kW Ultra-Rapid Charger Guide

Ultra-rapid chargers rated up to 250 kW can support fast travel charging for compatible vehicles. The rating is a maximum supply capability; your EV decides how much power it accepts.

What makes a charger ultra-rapid?

A high-power DC unit supplies energy directly to a compatible EV battery. Many sites offer CCS2 connectors. To reach high rates, a vehicle needs suitable battery architecture and conditions; many cars in this guide peak below 250 kW.

Benefits and things to check

Example charging times

Illustration for adding 42 kWh, equivalent to 10–80% of a 60 kWh usable battery, using ideal steady power.

Effective power acceptedIdeal time for 42 kWhWhat limits it?
250 kW10 minutesOnly if vehicle and conditions allow
170 kW15 minutesVehicle maximum rate
88 kW29 minutesVehicle maximum rate
Actual sessions take longer than these theoretical values: DC power commonly tapers as the battery fills, and a cold battery or shared charger can reduce power.
